Premium Worm Castings: How To Use and Store Nature’s Best Soil Booster.
What Are Worm Castings?
Worm castings, also known as vermicast, are nutrient-rich organic matter processed by earthworms. They enhance soil health, improve plant growth, and boost microbial life.
How to Use Worm Castings
For Gardens & Raised Beds
Mix ½ to 1 cup per plant or 1-2 lbs per square foot into the topsoil.
Side-dress plants monthly for continuous feeding.
For Houseplants
Sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons per pot every 4-6 weeks.
Water gently after application.
For Lawn Care
Apply 10-20 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. to boost microbial activity and root development.
For Compost Tea
Mix 1 cup of castings per gallon of dechlorinated water.
Let it brew 12-24 hours, then use as a liquid fertilizer for plants.
Storage & Moisture Tips
Worm castings should be moist like a wrung-out sponge—not too dry or soggy.
If your castings are too dry, lightly mist with water.
If it is too wet, spread them out in a shaded, well-ventilated area to air-dry before use
How We Package Your Castings
We package castings to retain their beneficial microbes while preventing excess moisture buildup.
Store in a cool, shaded area in a breathable container (burlap, paper bag, or perforated plastic).
How Long Can You Store Worm Castings?
- When stored properly, worm castings can remain viable for up to a year while retaining microbial activity.
- Fresh worm castings are at their peak within the first 6-12 months, as they contain the highest levels of microbial life, enzymes, and bioavailable nutrients. Over time, while they don’t necessarily go "bad," their microbial activity and some nutrient potency may diminish.
- Keep them aerated and moist, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
- Ideal temperatures range between 50-80°F (10-27°C) to maintain the integrity of the beneficial microorganisms.
- Before using stored worm castings in your garden, gently aerate or fluff them to restore texture and airflow. If they have dried out, lightly mist with water and let them sit for a few hours to rehydrate before application.
- Clearly label containers with the date of harvest to ensure you use the oldest castings first.
🍯 Feeding Unsulphured Molasses to Beneficial Microbes
If you want to keep the microbes active, you can mix a small amount of unsulphured blackstrap molasses (approximately 1-2 teaspoons per cubic foot of soil) into filtered, non-chlorinated water and lightly spray your stored castings every 2-4 weeks. Another option is to sprinkle powdered unsulphured, blackstrap molasses into your castings at the same application rate. Mix into casting evenly.
